No idea if anyone even still visits this site, but I'll keep it online as a kind of time capsule I guess. 25 years ago I created this fan page! It has to be the oldest Alanis fan site that is still online. If anyone actually reads this, drop me a line (rego@duck.com)!

Talk about long time between updates. This one is worth it though - Alanis is finally pregnant. Congrats to them both. She's always said she wants to be a mother in her thirties, looks like she's gonna get her wish.

Ok so I started listening to the album and so far.....well......I'm not impressed. I dunno....for someone who has been with her music from the beginning (the US beginning that is) I don't like the direction she's taken with this one. Yes it sounds different. That is not necessarily a good thing. I accept her artistic drive to create and experiment but I feel that this album is overproduced and the whole synth/techno sound is not something I would say I like in general. There are some songs where it just works and sounds nice, but most of the time I would prefer real instruments and a more natural sound.

Songs I absolutely do not like after the first listen:

  • Citizen of the Planet
  • Straightjacket
  • 20-20
  • Versions of Violence

Songs I think may grow on me:

  • Torch
  • Giggle Again For No Reason

Songs I like:

  • Underneath
  • Not as We

The rest I'm pretty much indifferent to...I wouldn't turn them off if they were playing in the background but I wouldn't put them on if someone asked me to put an Alanis song on. So for me, after one listen, I rate the album a 2.5 out of 5. I respect her willingness to experiment and do something different, and some songs worked out alright. Overall - meh. Nothing compared to JLP in terms of the songs' ability to connect to the listener and stay in your head, the message, the production.

My opinion about this may change after a few more listens but that's it for now.

Sorry about the long absence. Anyway, the new album will be released 2nd June globally and 10th June in North America. And this tidbit from Hollywoodrag.com:

***********************************

Meanwhile, Alanis Morissette attacks ex-boyfriend Ryan Reynolds on her new album.
The Canadian singer has revealed various tracks on her upcoming LP 'Flavors of Entanglement' were inspired by her then-disintegrating relationship with the 'Smokin' Aces' actor.

She said: "This album was like a life raft. I wanted my own personal story to unfold as it was happening."

One lyric from track 'Straightjacket' is: "I don't know who you are, talking to me with such f***ing disrespect."

While lines from 'Underneath' include: "Look at us break our bonds in this kitchen/ Look at us rallying our defenses/ Look at us waging war in our bedroom."

Alanis and Ryan dated between 2004 and 2007, and were engaged. Ryan is now set to marry 'The Other Boleyn Girl' actress Scarlett Johansson.

Although she is still hurt by the split, the 'Ironic' singer believes the experience has made her a better artist.

She added to Britain's The Guardian newspaper: "That's what I keep coming back to. What you're writing is who you are, what you really want to be doing. That's all that matters."

Finally some news to report: Alanis' new album "Flavors of Entanglement" is on the way, and some new songs that will probably be on the album have been played. The song "Not As We" was featured in the third episode of the latest season of "House", and the other song is called "Underneath" and was performed in September. No word as of yet about the release date or what the first single will be.

Well Alanis has created a bit of a storm on the net recently with her cover of the Black Eyed Peas' "My Hump" song/video. People either love it or hate it! Make up your own mind and watch it here:

Wow, talk about long time between updates. I guess there's not too much happening with Alanis. For those who are interested, Alanis and Ryan have called it quits (again), there's a little article here. And I have added a few poems to the Poem Corner.
